Start at 100 and count backwards.
100 Shots is a free practice tracker built on one idea. If you're bad at something and want to get good at it, expect to have 100 bad attempts.
So the first attempt is 100. The second is 99. The third is 98.
It rewires your expectations. A bad attempt isn't a failure, it's one of the hundred you planned for. Less frustration, and you get to practice in peace.

What it is
A simple counter for practice. Each thing you're practicing is a card with a big number: how many of your hundred shots are left. Tap the check after every attempt, good or bad, and the number goes down by one. A grid of 100 dots fills up as you go. When you reach zero the card says "All 100 done", and you can keep logging shots.
There are no streaks, no goals, no ratings and no "you missed a day". A day off doesn't reset anything. The only thing it counts is attempts, because attempts are the part you control.
Who it's for
- Anyone learning a skill they're bad at right now: coding, writing, drawing, an instrument, a language, public speaking, working out.
- People who quit habit trackers when a streak breaks.
- Rejection and outreach challenges, where the number of asks matters more than the outcome: cold emails, sales calls, pitches, auditions, job applications.
- Creative practice where quantity comes before quality: one sketch, one song, one short story at a time.
Features
- One card per habit, each counting down from 100, with a 100-dot grid.
- Count any attempt with one tap. Undo on the card and in the bar at the bottom fixes mis-taps.
- Shot history for each habit, where you can remove any single shot. Rename or delete a habit from its menu.
- An optional evening reminder ("Did you take any shots today?") that skips days you already logged a shot.
- Works offline. Your data is stored on your device, so it works without an account.
- Optional sign-in with Google to keep your shots in sync across devices.
- Light and dark themes.
Questions
- Is it free?
- Yes. No ads, no trial, no paid plan.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Everything works on one device without signing in. Sign in with Google only if you want the same shots on your phone and your computer.
- Which devices does it work on?
- Any phone, tablet or computer with a modern browser. It's a web app you can install: on Android and desktop Chrome or Edge, use "Install app"; on iPhone and iPad, tap Share, then "Add to Home Screen". Once installed it opens like any other app and works offline.
- Does it have reminders?
- Yes, one optional evening reminder per day, at a time you choose, skipped on days you already logged a shot. On iPhone and iPad, reminders need the app added to the Home Screen (iOS 16.4 or later).
- Where is my data stored?
- On your device: each habit's name and the time of each shot. That's all the app records. If you sign in with Google, a copy of the same data is kept on 100 Shots' server under your Google account id, so your devices can sync; signing out syncs one last time and clears the device. If you turn on reminders, the server keeps your device's push address, the reminder time, your time zone and the date of your last shot, but not your habits. Nothing is sold or shared, and there are no ads or trackers. The source is on GitHub if you want to check.
- What doesn't it do?
- It only counts. There are no prompts telling you what to practise, no place to attach a sketch or a recording, no notes, no charts. If you want ideas for what to draw or write, pair it with a prompt source, and use 100 Shots to count the attempts.
- What does it look like for drawing?
- Add a habit called "Sketches". After each sketch, good or bad, tap the check. The card goes from 100 to 99 to 98, and the dot grid fills in. Three sketches tonight means three dots, and a week off changes nothing: the number just waits for you.
- Why count backwards and not up?
- Counting up has no end, so every bad attempt feels like a setback. Counting down from 100 puts the bad attempts inside a plan: you expected them. Watching the number fall is progress whether the attempt went well or not.
- What happens after 100?
- The card says "All 100 done" and keeps logging your shots. By then, the thing you were bad at has usually become something you just do.
- How is this different from a streak tracker?
- A streak tracker rewards consecutive days and punishes a missed one. 100 Shots counts attempts and ignores days. Missing a week costs nothing, and ten attempts in one day count as ten.
- Who made it?
- Eli Finer, an independent developer. The idea came from a post he wrote about counting attempts backwards, which turned into this app. The source is on GitHub.
When to use something else
If you want detailed habit statistics, many daily habits with schedules, or a streak to protect, a full habit tracker like Loop Habit Tracker, Habitify or Streaks fits better. If you're tracking sets and weights at the gym, use a workout log. 100 Shots does one thing: it counts attempts at something you're still bad at.
